Byzantine Fault Tolerant Distributed Quickest Change Detection

چکیده
We introduce and solve the problem of Byzantine fault tolerant distributed quickest change detection in both continuous and discrete time setups. In this problem, multiple sensors sequentially observe random signals from the environment and send their observations to a control center that will determine whether there is a change in the statistical behavior of the observations. An unknown subset of sensors are compromised and will send arbitrarily modified and even artificially generated signals to the control center. It is shown that the performance of the the so-called CUSUM statistic, which is optimal when all sensors are honest, will be significantly degraded in the presence of even a single dishonest sensor. In particular, instead of in a logarithmically the detection delay grows linearly with the average run length (ARL) to false alarm. To mitigate such a performance degradation, we propose a fully distributed low complexity detection scheme. We show that the proposed scheme can recover the log scaling. We also propose a centralized group-wise scheme that can further reduce the detection delay.

Design of a Secure and Fault Tolerant Environment for Distributed Storage
We discuss the design and evaluation of a secure and fault tolerant storage infrastructure for un-trusted distributed computing environments. Previous designs of storage systems for this space have tended to use decoupled mechanisms for achieving fault tolerance and security. Our design, based on cryptographic properties of error-correction odes, combines redundancy (for fault tolerance) and en...
متن کاملByzantine Fault Isolation in the Farsite Distributed File System
In a peer-to-peer system of interacting Byzantine-fault-tolerant replicated-state-machine groups, as system scale increases, so does the probability that a group will manifest a fault. If no steps are taken to prevent faults from spreading among groups, a single fault can result in total system failure. To address this problem, we introduce Byzantine Fault Isolation (BFI), a technique that enab...
متن کاملProactive and Reactive View Change for Fault Tolerant Byzantine Agreement
Problem statement: Dealing with arbitrary failures effectively, while reaching agreement, remains a major operational challenge in distributed transactions. In the contemporary literature, standard protocols such as Byzantine Fault Tolerant Distributed Commit and Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance handles the problem to a greater extent. However, the limitation with these protocols is that the...
متن کاملA Byzantine Fault Tolerant Raft
Just like how Paxos is hard to understand, PBFT is also hard to understand. Therefore, we want to formulate a Byzantine Fault Tolerant distributed file system that is easy to understand. Therefore, we took inspiration from Raft, PBFT, as well as Blockchains (because it’s the latest fad) to create a simple BFT algorithm.
متن کاملA Scalable Byzantine Fault Tolerant Service in Grid System
This paper describes the design, implementation and usage of a secure scalable Byzantine fault tolerant MDS system in the Grid. The scalable Byzantine fault tolerant MDS system provides a hierarchy GIIS servers, a local GIIS domain can require the resource it needs from remote GIIS domain. By using the statemachine replication approach and quorum system technique, the scalable Byzantine fault t...
